What is ‘care work’?
Care work is all about looking after other people, particularly those who depend on others to survive: such as children, elderly and disabled people. This involves everything from doing domestic house chores, like cooking and cleaning, to helping with another person’s wellbeing, health and social development.
Charity & volunteering: Should we be paid for doing good deeds?
Volunteering and charity are way for people to do good deeds for others. By definition these activities are unpaid, but in some situations excluding this beneficial work from the paid economy may cause less of it to get done.
Time banks: What if we trade time rather than money?
Not all transactions have to involve money. Some people take part in organizations called time banks in which members contribute their time to helping others, and can then request other people’s time in exchange.
